Hi Sarah,
If you’re like most founders I talk to, this is a season of momentum. You’re scaling. Revenue is climbing. Maybe you’re weighing a second location, a bigger team, or a major investment. You have a real vision for where this business is headed, and genuine goals for 2027.
And underneath the excitement sits a quieter question that’s much harder to answer:
How do I know the decisions I’m making actually make sense financially?
It’s the question that keeps good founders up at night, because growth has a way of hiding the answer. When you’re busy and the top line is going up, it’s easy to assume everything underneath is healthy. But "busy" and "profitable" are not the same thing, and by the time the gap shows up in your bank balance, you’ve usually been living with it for months.
So before you lock in your 2027 goals, it’s worth sitting with a few honest questions:
Do you judge how healthy your business is by the cash in your bank account? (It’s comforting, but it’s a lagging, often misleading signal.)
Do you actually know whether your resources (your people, your time, your tools) are running optimally?
Are you quietly bleeding money by overservicing some clients and underservicing others?
Has your pricing gone stale, set for the business you used to be, not the one you’ve become?
Are you making big decisions off month-end reports that are already weeks out of date?
If any of those landed a little too close, you’re not behind. You’re normal. Nearly every business hits a point where the instinct that got them here stops being enough, and the numbers have to start pulling their weight.
That’s exactly what makes right now the moment to be intentional. 2027 doesn’t have to be a hope you’re chasing. Start simple: write down your 2027 goals.
Next: map three operational milestones that signal you are on track to achieve them.
This exercise does something powerful—it sheds light on exactly where your business needs support to reach those goals.
Over the coming editions, I’ll break down how to build that out, one clear idea at a time.
Want to know exactly where you stand going into 2027?
